WELCOME TO SELF SERVICE PASSWORD MANAGEMENT
About Passwords at SUNY Empire
SUNY Empire State University uses single sign-on, allowing students, faculty and staff to log into multiple university systems, including MySUNYEmpire, your office computer, computer lab desktops, all secure university websites, the Microsoft 365 environment, and Brightspace all with one password.
To keep your password and identity secure while providing convenience for password resets Information Technology Services (ITS) offers the Microsoft Self Service Password Reset (SSPR) to students, faculty and staff. SSPR allows the university community to verify identity, reset a password, or change a password from anywhere and from any device. When you need to reset a password with SSPR, a security code is sent to your preferred method for authentication; your personal email, mobile phone, office phone, or authenticator app. Your choice!

Important Next Steps
Students:
All students with a university username (first_lastname###@sunyempire.edu) are registered for SSPR when you receive confirmation of your university account/username. Just like with online banking or shopping, a method of communication for authenticating with a security code is required to reset your password (e.g., personal email, mobile phone, authenticator app).
The personal email address on file with the university is used to receive a security code, in order to verify your authentication during a password reset.
We strongly recommend you have an alternative authentication option, such as a second email, mobile phone (SMS text or call) or Microsoft’s authenticator app (iOS and Android), in case one option does not work or is unavailable.
Faculty and Staff:
As with online banking or shopping, a method of communication for authenticating with a security code is required to reset your password (e.g., personal email, mobile phone, authenticator app)
All university employees wanting to use SSPR need to register at SSPR Setup to provide a method of communication (e.g., personal email, mobile phone) for authenticating with a security code during a password reset
We strongly recommend you have an alternative authentication option, such as a second email, mobile phone (SMS text or call) or Microsoft’s authenticator app (iOS and Android), in case one option does not work or is unavailable.
