Maximize Your Veterans Benefits at SUNY Empire
The Post-9/11 GI Bill® provides tuition assistance based on your eligibility. If you qualify for Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment (VR&E) benefits, SUNY Empire automatically defers tuition payments once your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) is received.

Service-Specific Guidelines
Each branch of service has its own set of TA requirements. Find your service-specific guidelines:
Contact your Education Services Officer (ESO) to determine your TA eligibility.
Receiving TA Benefits
Once you have determined your TA eligibility, reach out to our military outreach coordinator at military.programs@sunyempire.edu for assistance. They will provide you with a free Evaluated Education Plan which includes your previous college credits and credit earned through military service.

"Top-Up" Assistance for Active-Duty Students
If TA doesn’t cover full tuition, the MGIB "Top-Up" Program can help. To use this option:
- Complete VA Form 22-1990 and select "Top-Up."
- Obtain a fully signed TA Authorization Voucher with "Top-Up" noted.

- MERIT Scholarship for service members
- Additional grants and scholarships are available through the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC)

- Apply for FAFSA and TAP at http://www.hesc.ny.gov.
- Scroll over the "Pay" Tab.
- Click on "Military" located under "Additional Information."
- Complete FAFSA application (federal code 010286).
- Complete TAP application (school code 0913).
