A New Level of Access: Our Spanish Bachelor of Business Administration Program

The Spanish Language Program at Empire State University is a groundbreaking initiative, proudly supported by the State University of New York (SUNY). Our inaugural degree, a Spanish Bachelor of Business Administration (Spanish BBA -  detalles en español ), will begin serving students in Fall 2025.

 

Key Facts about the Spanish BBA

• The Spanish BBA will be the first online program within the SUNY system taught entirely in Spanish.
• It will include bilingual wraparound services such as tutoring, financial aid guidance, and accessibility resources.
• The Spanish BBA will mirror its English counterpart, a 124-credit program currently offered by Empire State University.
• It will provide students with knowledge, skills, and competencies in areas such as accounting, economics, finance, human resource management, legal and ethical studies, marketing, and strategic management.
• It will prepare students to manage and lead in business and organizational contexts in a rapidly changing world.
• The Spanish BBA has been designed for adult learners who are currently working or have experience in business-related industries and wish to advance their careers.

 

Meeting the Demand: Why Offering Degrees Taught in Spanish Matters

As the U.S. continues to grow as a major hub for Spanish speakers, Empire State University is leading the charge to expand access to higher education for this significant yet underserved population. According to Instituto Cervantes, the U.S. will have the second-largest Spanish-speaking population in the world by 2060, second only to Mexico.

Key data from the U.S. Census Bureau highlights the importance of this initiative:

• The Latino or Hispanic population in the U.S. grew from 14.6 million in 1980 to 65.2 million in 2023, comprising more than 19% of the total population.
• 41.2 million people live in Spanish-speaking households across the U.S., including 2.7 million in New York state.
• Of those living in Spanish-speaking homes, nearly 16.3 million report speaking English "less than very well," with 1.1 million of them residing in New York.

By offering a degree entirely taught in Spanish, SUNY Empire is expanding access to higher education for Spanish-speaking individuals, providing them with new opportunities to advance their careers and achieve their professional goals. As an online program, it extends beyond state and national borders, potentially reaching students in Puerto Rico and across the rest of the Spanish-speaking world.
