Pell Grants

Pell Grants are federal grants awarded to undergraduate students with financial need. Eligibility is determined through the FAFSA. Award amounts vary based on a variety of factors, including income and enrollment status.

The federal TEACH Grant supports students who plan to become teachers in high-need fields. In exchange for funding, recipients must agree to teach in a low-income school or educational service agency for four years.

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) provides extra financial aid to undergraduate students with the greatest financial need. Unlike Pell Grants, funds are awarded directly by the SUNY Empire financial aid office. Funds are also limited, so apply early.

Earn While You Learn

The Federal Work-Study (FWS) Program offers a chance to earn money through part-time jobs while enrolled in school. Work on campus or with approved community organizations. Work-study wages do not need to be repaid and can help cover educational expenses like books, supplies, or personal costs.
