Dorothy Escribano, Ph.D., will serve as Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at SUNY Empire State University, providing strategic leadership for all academic programs and initiatives across the institution. In this role, she will work collaboratively with college deans, faculty, and staff to oversee curriculum development, faculty affairs, program assessment, Middle States self-study preparation, academic program accreditations, and enrollment and budget management. Her goal is to ensure the highest standards of teaching, learning, student experience, and scholarly excellence. Dorothy will also lead strategic plan implementation efforts and reporting within the Office of Academic Affairs.
Dorothy brings more than 30 years of experience in higher education as a tenured faculty member, associate vice president for academic affairs, and provost at three institutions: Worcester State University, The College of New Rochelle, and SUNY Old Westbury. During her decade as provost at CNR, she served as the college’s chief planning officer, overseeing strategic planning and assessment, MSCHE liaison responsibilities, reaccreditation reports, faculty and staff professional development, and enrollment projections tied to area budget planning for its six campuses. She also served as acting president of CNR for two academic years while the institution searched for its next president.
Dr. Escribano earned her doctorate in Hispanic Studies from Brown University, her M.A. in Spanish Literature from the University of Rhode Island, her M.A. in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Special Education from SUNY Stony Brook, and her B.A. in Spanish and Secondary Education from Marist College.
In addition to her faculty and administrative roles, Dorothy has chaired several MSCHE reaccreditation teams. Her professional development includes a year as an ACE Fellow, a fellowship in the Provost Academy sponsored by CIC, and a summer fellowship in the Harvard Executive Leadership Program.
