Alexander ("Alex") Yin, Ph.D. serves as Empire State University's inaugural vice president for student success and institutional effectiveness. In this role, he leads the university's efforts to advance student success through data-informed decision-making, institutional effectiveness, assessment, accreditation, and strategic analytics in support of the university's strategic plan, Elevate '28.
Alex brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in institutional research, assessment, strategic planning, and higher education analytics. Prior to joining Empire State University, he served as vice provost for strategic planning and institutional effectiveness at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where he led the Office of Strategic Planning and Institutional Effectiveness and oversaw the university's enterprise data, analytics, assessment, and planning functions to support evidence-based decision-making across the institution.
Earlier in his career, Alex held leadership positions at the University of Vermont, where he served as assistant provost for institutional research and assessment, and at The Pennsylvania State University as a senior planning and research associate. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for transforming institutional research offices into strategic partners by developing sustainable data infrastructure, expanding access to analytics, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and data-informed decision-making among academic and administrative leaders.
Alex earned a Ph.D. in Higher Education and a Master of Applied Statistics from The Pennsylvania State University. He also holds a Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
