MAT Certification Areas and Content Requirements

MAT Content Requirements

To meet New York State certification requirements, applicants to the MAT program must possess a bachelor's degree and 30 credits in their content area (at least 6 credits of advanced-level coursework are required). Undergraduate courses with a grade below C and graduate courses with a grade below B are not acceptable toward a content review.

MAT & M.Ed. Special Education Content Requirements

To meet New York State certification requirements, applicants to the MAT or M.Ed. in Special Education program must possess a bachelor's degree and 24 credits in their content area.  Undergraduate courses with a grade below C and graduate courses with a grade below B are not acceptable toward a content review.


TESOL Content Requirements

To meet New York State certification requirements, applicants to the TESOL advanced certificate programs must possess a bachelor's and/or master’s degree and 12 credits in languages other than English. Undergraduate courses with a grade below C and graduate courses with a grade below B are not acceptable toward a content review.

The TESOL advanced certificate programs also require that applicants complete 3 credits in Literacy skills.
