Matthew Liao-Troth, Ph.D., will serve as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at SUNY Empire State University, providing strategic leadership for all academic programs and initiatives across the institution. In this role, he will work collaboratively with college deans, faculty, and staff to oversee curriculum development, faculty affairs, program assessment, Middle States self-study preparation, academic program accreditations, and enrollment and budget management. His goal is to ensure the highest standards of teaching, learning, student experience, and scholarly excellence. Matthew will also lead strategic plan implementation efforts and reporting within the Office of Academic Affairs. 

Matthew has served as chief academic officer at St. Petersburg College, Hawai‘i Pacific University, and Georgia College & State University. In these roles he has led the academic mission and ensured the academic integrity of the institution. He has worked collaboratively with a variety of constituents including faculty, staff, students, community partners, and industry to advance the respective institutions’ goals, add undergraduate and graduate degrees, reaffirm accreditation, and improve student success across a variety of metrics. 

He has also served as an academic dean at Georgia College, an academic department chair at Western Washington University, and on the faculties of Washington University in St. Louis and DePaul University. He is an award-winning instructor and scholar with research focusing on the relationship between individuals and organizations, and a former faculty senate president. 

Dr. Liao-Troth earned his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona and is an emeritus professor of Management at Western Washington University.
